Eastern Science Company was founded in 1919 by two astronomy graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Until 1948 the company produced and designed instruments for astronomers, some of which are currently on display in the lobby of the Dartmouth Astrophysics Department.
In 1948 Rino P. Alfoni purchased the company, and in 1954 moved from Brookline, Massachusetts to Wakefield, Massachusetts.
Eastern Science Company was incorporated in 1960. At that time, the company dealt primarily with the design and production of custom machines and prototype parts, notably the first dialysis machine and one of the first artificial hearts.
The present owner, Richard C. Alfoni, took over in 1980. In 1992, the company moved to the new facility in Rowley, Massachusetts, and in 1997 expanded the building to its current size.
In the last 20 years, Eastern Science has moved away from design and prototype work, and entered into higher volume production. While slanting heavily toward the silicon chip industry, all areas of manufacturing are handled.
In the past 20 years, every piece of equipment has been replaced, and today the highest standards of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Quality Control are strictly maintained.
